Two years after starting up, I’m exploring what the future holds in store for the project and the site. A large portion of the site is currently unused, and could be a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to run a growing project. I’m also looking to expand the Audacious Veg team and make it into a workers coop with 2-4 people working part time on it.
About the site
Located on the beautiful and biodiverse Forest Farm Allotment Site, Audacious Veg rents approx 3,000 square metres from community gardening project Forest Farm Peace Garden – but we’re only using approx 750 sq m. The unused portion of the site was cleared of brambles a year ago, but they are making their way back so to use it will require a big chunk of clearance work.
The site is a 5 minute walk from Hainault Tube station on the Central line (25 mins from Stratford/30 from Liverpool Street). Water is available from water tanks that are refilled via mains, and use of site include use of a cabin with electricity and toilets.
About Audacious Veg
Supported by fantastic volunteers, sessional workers and advisers, I started up Audacious Veg in 2015. The vision behind the project is to create opportunities – and Living Wage paid placements – for disadvantaged young people. We chose a social enterprise business model, growing edible and cut flowers and gourmet salad greens and running courses to supplement grant income. Through a combination of grant funding and trade income, we’ve run a training programme and work placements for unemployed young adults. We have a small number of regular customers, and there is a lot of scope for expansion.
After running Audacious Veg on my own for two years, I am looking to transform Audacious Veg into a workers coop because it’s more in line with the ethos/vision, and better suited to the scale of the project. I’m excited about collaboration, and being open and flexible about future directions the project can take.

I’d love to chat to anyone who is interested in this opportunity- whether this means independently taking on the unused portion of the site, or joining Audacious Veg as a coop member. Please get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org / 0777 809 2570.
Come and see the site: I am on site on Mondays and Thursdays, and could do other times depending on what works for you. Please get in touch in advance in order to arrange.
